This House is proposed for a 10 perch land in Bandaragama. It was a very challenging task due to the West facing orientation of the land and its narrow road frontage as well as the intention to minimize the floor area while accommodating 3 Bedroom spaces.
Total floor area: 1282sqft excluding single parking Garage of 235sqft area. This optimum design solution was achieved through a single story floor plan while adhering to all applicable building regulations.
The House is generated by keeping more than 10ft rear space as a fully green garden and ensuring 8ft spaces from one side and the front as a connected garden space.
The living area extends towards the dining area through a courtyard space and there are adequate openings to connect these 3 spaces as required specially during occasions. Since the house is facing the West, the main entrance is located facing the North. By doing this a smaller lobby has been created where the owners can serve strangers without inviting to the main living area.
However, comparatively narrow passage is proposed as a Gallery Passage to connect the living area to the dining area as a comfortable/convenient link other than the given courtyard. Hence, the order of spaces, from common to private could be managed well.
A larger Kitchen is proposed as a customary for Sri Lankan House wife / mother.
Since the main target was to have two bedrooms, this house is designed in a way, where the Office space can be converted into another bedroom when required. It has a direct connection from the inside as well. In order to meet this future requirement, a concrete slab was proposed to cover the Garage. Therefore, the client can have the office space on top of the Garage someday if required.
Legal light and ventilation are fulfilled beyond the legal requirement by having more open spaces from all possible sides.
